Together with & Bruno Silva, through Mount Sinai, we guided first year medical students on how to frame a problem which they can design or create an intervention for. For inspiration we will first took a tour of the exhibition on display at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum: By the People: Designing a Better America, which is an exhibition of 60 collaborative designs from throughout the United States and across borders that challenges the country’s persistent social and economic inequality. The exhibition delivers a powerful message of optimism for achieving more just and equitable society for all Americans through design. After the exhibition Bruno and I engaged the students in a hands-on design workshop, in which they framed a problem given their unique context and background. Through a season of ideation and rapid prototyping with teams students created models to showcase the intervention to address the identified need.
